HUNGER SHOULD NEVER BE USED AS A WEAPON OF WAR. ACT TODAY.

Conflict is the leading cause of hunger. And it’s on the rise.

In Sudan, over 500 days of violent conflict have destroyed the food system, forced millions from their homes, and made humanitarian relief efforts almost impossible. Famine has already been declared in at least one refugee camp.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, 40% of the population faces crisis levels of food insecurity. The ongoing fighting leaves little hope for families to recover from disrupted June harvests.

In Gaza and the West Bank, the fighting since 7th October 2023 has decimated crops, water systems and health services. The entire population is at risk of acute food shortages, while half a million people are suffering from catastrophic levels of hunger.

All around the world, when fields are burned, food is destroyed, water sources are polluted and families are forced to flee their homes -- people starve.

This is unacceptable.

International Humanitarian Law already prohibits the use of hunger as a weapon of war. But it must be upheld. The UK has an important role to play in making sure civilians are kept safe, humanitarian workers are protected, and no one goes hungry because of conflict.

Will you add your name to our message to Prime Minister Keir Starmer?

We call on the government to:

  • uphold and champion international humanitarian law - prohibiting the use of starvation as a weapon of war
  • hold those who break international humanitarian laws to account
  • protect civilians, and humanitarian and health workers
  • support sustainable recovery and the prevention of future crises through multi-year humanitarian finance

Together we'll end starvation as a weapon of war. We’ve got two quick questions for you – here’s the first one:

What made you decide to add your name today?

That’s really helpful to know, thanks. Next question:

Do you believe that if we all work together, we can make sure that every child has enough to eat?

<first name> – together, we can stop life-threatening hunger in its tracks.

No one needs to die from hunger. Will you donate today to get life-saving care to people urgently who need it?

£5 a month could provide five emergency hot meals for refugees fleeing conflict. That’s just £1.25 a week.

Will you give now? It takes 2 minutes.

Before you go… will you double your impact by sharing the petition?

This is urgent: to end starvation as a weapon of war, we need as many people as possible backing the campaign.

Share now, it takes 30 seconds:

Thanks so much, <first name>
