Children in Gaza are still facing life-threatening hunger. The UK Government has the influence to protect them.
Sign the letter below to tell the Foreign Secretary to act now.
Dear Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband,
Right now, tens of thousands of children in Gaza are still recovering from life-threatening hunger.
The ceasefire in Gaza has allowed more humanitarian aid to enter helping to reduce the most life-threatening form of hunger, which was caused by years of violent conflict, food and water system destruction and aid blockades. But for families who have endured extreme hunger, the crisis is far from over. Humanitarian access continues to face serious constraints.
An estimated 74,200 children under 5 years old could still require treatment for the most life-threatening form of hunger by April 2027, including more than 11,400 severe cases. Children in Gaza still need nutritious food, safe water and healthcare to recover and grow.
Too little protein, fruit, vegetables, vitamins and essential micronutrients put children at risk of chronic malnutrition and stunting, which can affect their growth, health and development for years to come.
Many families can access some food, but not the diverse diet children need. Around 24,600 pregnant and breastfeeding women are expected to experience acute malnutrition.
Action Against Hunger continues to provide nutrition support and other humanitarian assistance in Gaza.
The UK Government can use its diplomatic influence to help protect the progress made and prevent more suffering.
I am calling on you to take three urgent actions:
Use the UK’s diplomatic influence to help ensure the Gaza ceasefire holds and civilians and humanitarian workers are protected.
Press for safe, sustained and unhindered humanitarian access so food, water, medicines, fuel and other essentials can reach families throughout Gaza. The UK Government has itself called for aid to enter Gaza unhindered – these calls must now become reality.
Support access to nutritious food and the recovery of health, water and local food systems so children can not only survive but grow and develop.
Foreign Secretary, please act now: protect the ceasefire, let aid reach people, and help protect the future of Gaza’s children.
Yours sincerely,
